Food Review: Baristart Coffee

(located along Tras St, behind Keisuke Hamburg)

Service crew are friendly. Visited by a lot of Japanese. Most of the kitchen crew are japanese. Even the deco as a whole feels so japanese. This cafe gets real busy towards mid of the day during weekends and possibly weekdays as well since it's so near to office areas. Be sure to come early or wait for seats during peak periods.

Hokkaido Carbonara
Price: $17.80

Very creamy with strong milk and cream taste. Pretty authentic japanese style carbonara. Bacon is thick cut and flavourful. The whole dish is thick-ish in nature but the whole combi balanced up nicely with an egg and provides a strong overall flavour. If the bacon flavour is stronger, it will make the dish perfect. Highly recommended to try.

Tonkatsu Sando
Price: $16.80

Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) sandwich served with fries and gerkins.
Fries are crispy and gerkins are normal. The sandwich comprises of white bread lightly toasted, tonkatsu patty, shredded cabbages and tonkatsu sauce.

Good in taste generally and pork is thick cut. The tenderness of pork is decent but can be softer. Not out of the world but decent enough.

Chocolate Glace (Iced)
Price: $7.50 (upsize for additonal 50cts)

Not the usual thick chocolatey style. Light japanese feel with more milky kinda taste. Wish that chocolate taste is more pronounced.

Iced Latte with biele milk
Price: $7.50 (upsize for additonal 50cts)

Good balanced latte. Not too strong on coffee and not that strong in milk. The milk has a pronounced flavour. Coffee has a mild roasted flavour without acidity. So if you like your coffee without the acidity bit, this could be your type.

Hokkaido Cream Puff
Price: $4.50 each (3 for $12)

Impressive cream puff in my opinion. Very generous in cream and very crispy crust with little bits of sugar and sugar icing on top. The cream is very milky in nature and doesn't overpower with sugar.

The crust is one of the crispiest ones i have eaten before. Very thin and yet enjoyable as a whole package and there is a pastry roasted taste on the crust.

The price wise is well worth. Best eaten with a spoon!
