Food Review: Joo Chiat Ah Huat Wanton Noodles

(located in Dunman Food Centre, level 1)

Wanton Noodles
Price: $3.50 (pictured $4 for additonal ingredients like wantons and a little more char siew)

The ingredients include yellow noodles, char siew, cai xin vegetables, fried shallots, soup and wantons.

The ingredients are pretty standard and fresh enough.

Taste wise, on the noodles, it's done to aldente texture and the noodle flavour is pretty standard. The noodles sauce is leaning more towards the salty side.

The sambal chilli is one of its kind, home made with a stronger salty and yet punchy spicy flavour. The chilli is mixed with pretty good heibi or dried small shrimp flavour. In addition, the noodles are also tossed with strong fried shallot oil which gives it a very strong fried oily flavour. Coupled with the chilli, it brings an unique chilli flavouring to it.

To the char siew. The char siew looks dry but it's still ok. Not that dry in terms of texture. However it's also nothing special in terms of char siew flavour. Pretty standard char siew sauce flavour that you can get from Lee Kum Kee sauce.

The wanton is of standard size with succulent minced pork without much seasoning though. Just basic salt & soya sauce seasoning which give it a good enough balance, not over powering the main character here which is the noodles and sauce.

The soup is normal wanton soup without much flavour though.

In summary, this wanton noodles is good enough if you like sambal chilli. However I would not recommend it if you are going without the chilli as it may fall short of flavouring with only fried shallot oil flavouring.
