Food Review: Ramen Nagi
(located outside of Suntec Tower 2)
The ambience is like a Japanese ramen shop layout but it's not the clean deco style but rather the louder Japanese deco style. The shop plays corny japanese music, the service is pretty decent. Different from other ramen restaurants, Nagi does not provide iced water. The shop can accomodate about 4 tables of 6 seats, 4 tables of 4 seats.
Good thing is that they still have some condiments to go along for starters while waiting for the ramen to be served. 2 types of condiments are provided, flavoured bean sprouts and dried veg.
The bean sprout condiment is peppery in flavour and salty as well while the dried veg condiment is spicy and sesame in flavour.
Original Tonkotsu Ramen (Butao King)
Price: $13.90, Nagi Special Set: $5.90
The ingredients in the bowl of ramen include pork belly or char siew, black fungus strips, green onion or raw cabbage and ramen noodles.
You can customise the contents like the texture of noodles, the ingredients, the intensity of soup etc.
If you like to have more ingredients with your ramen, suggest that you can get Nagi special set add on which consist of egg, seaweed, cabbage and char siew bits.
The char siew bits is strong in flavour in soya sauce and sweet. A bit too tough though. The rest of the ingredients are the usual flavours.
The flavour of the tonkotsu broth is strong and porky in taste. I have ordered rich flavour but the flavour is not over empowering. The ramen noodles has a pretty good texture, the pork belly is soya and mirin based and pretty alright in flavour. It's not that soft and tender though especially the lean meat portion but it's not too bad. The fatty area is very soft and breaks pretty easily.
The soup however, is missing lard pieces so if you are a fan of floating fats pieces, you are in for a disappointment.
Soup flavour as compared to Keisuke Tonkotsu King is slightly less intense.
The Ajitamago aka soft core lava egg is flavourful and has a good molten center. It's more salty in flavour but balanced up once you eat with the ramen.
In summary, while the food is decent but pricing wise is not exactly worth since it's not special either. The good thing is that it's not that crowded which is good for people with kids.
