Food Review: Teo Kee Mushroom Minced Pork Noodles
(located in Tampines Round Market)
Spare Ribs Noodles
First of all, I have tried this stall several years ago and at that point of time, the stall has got quite a abit of mixed review. In fact, they were made famous because of the spare rib noodles which they didn't had when they first started out.
At the point of time, after they became famous, the standard was inconsistent but most of the time, the ribs were not cooked well and was pretty tough. The taste is less flavourful as opposed to the rave reviews from the media.
After so many years, I decided that maybe I should give them a try again.
Noodles was ok with fried oniony taste and al dente. The noodles is laced with a little braised sauce as you would have seen from my photos above. It would taste better if more braised sauce were given but the taste is pretty good for a start.
Highlight was really on the spare ribs. The base taste to the ribs is dark soya sauce and five spice powder and strong mushroomy flavour. In fact I'm pretty sure that the dark soya sauce was not from your usual supermarket kind of watery dark soya sauce from Taishan etc. The taste has a pretty mellow taste to it and the meat and soft bones are very soft and literally, you can tear them off quite easily. Because of the good taste, I was hoping if more sauce can be added. I guess that was why I saw many bought the $5 version that came with a separate plate of ribs with sauce.
The soup however, was really nothing to shout about. Pretty much laden with msg so you can skip that.
All in all, I think Teo Kee came back strong this time and hopefully it was due to the relaunch (Tampines Round Market just had a recent major renovation) and they eill continue with the standard. Do give them a try when you are around in the vincinity.

Around Tampines Round Market, there are a lot of car parks but it's pretty full in the morning. During weekdays are better as the lots turnover is quite fast else weekend, try to avoid and park at the multi-storey carpark.
